Jérôme Peschard Launches Art Exhibition at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza in Ho Chi Minh City

For the past 60 years, Sofitel Hotels & Resorts has epitomised the essence of French art de vivre across the globe. As 2024 heralds its Diamond Jubilee, commemorated with a series of exclusive events at Sofitel properties worldwide, Sofitel Saigon Plaza, the paragon of French hospitality in Ho Chi Minh City, proudly inaugurated an extraordinary celebration of art.

On the evening of June 21st, the Sofitel Saigon Plaza was the scene of a glittering event, marking the launch of a collaboration with the internationally renowned French Pop Artist, Jérôme Peschard.

The hotel’s lobby served as an elegant backdrop for an array of Peschard’s stunning oil paintings on recycled corrugated metal, showcasing his inspiration from French Indochina.

The event attracted an illustrious group of attendees, including Mrs. Sarah Hooper, Consul General of Australia to Vietnam; Mr. Daniël Stork, Consul General of the Netherlands to Vietnam; Mrs. Milena Padula, spouse of Italian Consul General Enrico Padula; and Mrs. Lê Hạnh, CEO of TVHub Vietnam. Distinguished guests also included Michelin Starred Chef/Owner Peter Cong Franklin of Ănăn Saigon, totalling one hundred and thirty of Ho Chi Minh’s leading tastemakers.

Guests enjoyed a selection of exquisite canapés, fine wines, and champagne while admiring Peschard’s captivating works. Adding to the allure, music by DJ Edge Pamute filled the space, and trendsetters Tracie May and Nykky Domodelled custom-embroidered Áo Dài, the national costume of Vietnam, designed by Peschard and couturière Giao Basson. A pop-up retail store showcasing Peschard’s merchandise collection also opened to the public, featuring a curated selection of home decor, limited edition numbered and artist-signed lacquer replicas of paintings, and an array of gift items. Both the boutique and the art exhibit will grace the Sofitel Saigon Plaza throughout the summer, concluding in early September.

“Exhilarating and Breathtaking” Eve Bushman Covers Riesling in Germany’s Mosel Region

I found myself describing the experience as both exhilarating and breathtaking, and these two words have now taken on a new meaning for me, probably forever. Raimund added to my thoughts when he said that here, we “always sit in the green.”

Have you been to the Middle Mosel, aka Mittelmosel, wine region of Germany? I had learned about the area, saw photos of the steep vineyards and their ancient stone sundials dating back hundreds of years, during a tasting with Raimund Prum from S.A. Pruem many years ago. Fast forward to this year, and we planned our first trip there, where we stayed at the S.A. Pruem guesthouse and visited with Raimund again! We also toured and tasted with Eifel-Pfieffer, C.A. Immich-Batterieberg, Villa Huesgen and Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler.

Know before you go: Rieslings are not all sweet! They range from bone dry to sweet. And though “Riesling is King” in the Mosel we enjoyed sparkling wines and rose, as well as Pinot Noir during our tastings. Not all wineries are in Bernkastel-Kues, many are in towns all roughly within 30 minutes of each other.

Wineries to Tour and Taste

S.A. Pruem: We must start with this winery as they are the reason we traveled to the Mosel for wine. I had met Raimund Prum in 2013 when he led a class for Ian Blackburn of Learn About Wine. Fast forward to this past May 2024, when I finally got to see Raimund again – this time at his home and winery. Raimund inherited the 800-year-old family winery in 1971 and has “expanded from 8.6 acres to 27.9 acres.”

His family had used money that they made from their apple farms to fund their wine growing business. Back in those days 100% of the people living in the area worked in the wine industry according to Raimund. Nowadays young people may leave, but they come back.

Raimund is a busy man, representing the winery almost all over the world. But he doesn’t do this alone. Raimund’s wife Pirjo, a WSET Diploma graduate, represents the brand in U.S. and Finland. Saskia, their oldest daughter, took over as the owner in 2017.

They produce many still and sparkling wines, from dry to sweet Rieslings to Rose of Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir, and sparkling wines. I had the opportunity to try most and had a hard time not finishing every sample that was offered. And though other places in the world make Riesling, Raimund said that the “character of the wine is different here” which began over 2,000 years ago by the Romans. (Many Roman pressing stations have been found along the Mosel.)

During the days we visited we had many opportunities to talk, but at our appointed time for our interview Raimund took us on a drive to the top of one of his vineyards, and it happened to be the oldest one that also is famous for its sundial. His tallest vineyards are 336 meters high, and the Mosel River is at 136. The ground is a combination of lush earth, wildflowers, and different types of slate rock – the rock in particular adds to the minerality found in the wines.

Eifel-Pfieffer: Did you know that award-winning Weingut Eifel-Pfeiffer has been in the same family since 1642, and is currently worked by three generations? We had a fabulous tour and tasting with mother and daughter Tanja Gorgen-Eifel and Mia-Katharina Gorgen.

We also learned that they only produce Riesling wines, have the coveted 1A rating which means that some of their vineyards are considered the best in the area, motivated Romanians work the steep vineyards, rainfall can’t always be counted on as it changes from year to year, and they have a total of 10 hectares over 30 kilometers in the Middle Mosel.

Their low-alcohol, not-overly-sweet, fresh, and mildly acidic wines are made from single vineyards – and also a blend of different vineyards that are only from the same area. Riesling “show character of each vineyard that you can really taste in the wine…the structure, minerality and acid” according to mother and daughter.

There are less winemakers now than there used to be: several of the smaller wineries have been absorbed by the larger ones as it’s been noted over time that it’s too cost prohibitive to run a small one-hectare winery.

These Rieslings pair well with all types of food – German, Indian, Chinese to name a few – and China just might be the largest importer of Eifel-Pfieffer wines. I was super impressed with all of their wines, from dry to sweet, but must give a special nod to a 1990 vintage from Trittenheimer Apotheke and the 2021 Mia (made by Mia while she finishes up winemaking school) from Trittenheimer Altarchen.

Immich-Batterieberg: This time we had the opportunity to sit down and taste with winemaker Gernot Kollmann while learning all about Immich Batterieberg. Let me just start by saying we liked every wine that Gernot opened for us. Most were very dry, all are organic, and 96% of the wines that they make are Rieslings.

What makes them special: they are the largest owner of old and ungrafted vineyards in the Mosel, all rocky and steep, and the winery dates back to 1425.

Seventy-eight percent of the 80k bottles they produce a year is exported to Japan, Italy, U.S., Switzerland, and the U.K. They receive top scores from Suckling and Parker, and those top-scoring wines sell out quickly.

The wines are a perfect example of the trend toward dry white wines (which means not sweet) and the continual production of lower alcohol wines.

Villa Huesgen: If you are looking for a grand tasting experience, Villa Huesgen is it. Of course, if you have the opportunity to be charmed by Adolph Huesgen VIII himself, then it’s even more special. Adolph’s wine curriculum vitae is almost as interesting as the winery alone! He regaled us in stories of his many collaborations (from Australia to South Africa), work in wineries in California (he started his career at Robert Mondavi as the European sales director with Michael Mondavi) and what he and his family have currently achieved (sparkling, still, rose in the original blue bottles Riesling were first made in) at Villa Huesgen.

The Huesgen family established the vineyard nine generations before, in 1735. The art nouveau-styled estate was built in 1904. They grow Riesling and Burgundy grapes, currently have their first block of Chardonnay in barrels and make more dry than sweet wines. They import to 35 countries.

We tasted ten wines, one of which recently was listed as one of the top nine Rieslings in the world by the Robb Report April 2024. We would have a hard time not liking any Villa Huesgen wines.

Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler: This estate is right in the popular part of Bernkastel-Kues, and just adds to the beautiful Mosel landscape. We were greeted by Stefan Pauly, who led us on a tour of the building and the many tasting areas for their guests. As this was the last tour of our trip, we “drank it up” for the history, and of course, the wines. We tasted many Rieslings, and even a beautifully made Eiswein, and were thrilled to discover that our local Total Wine stores has the exclusive label, Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler, and it’s very reasonably priced though it sells out every year. (Made a mental note to go there as soon as we get home!)

We learned that the winery was founded in 1556, they own 22 kilometers of vineyard along the Mosel, and they even offer an alcohol-free wine. One of the tasting areas we saw had a slight walkable ramp and was large enough to “seat a whole boat” of tourists that preferred not to climb up or down ancient steps for a wine tasting.

When to Visit

We happened to be in Bernkastel-Kues area of the Middle Mosel during Open Wine Cellar Days, which this year began on Germany’s Father’s Day. The holiday and the multi-day event brought many German tourists to the area, which added to the trip for us to “pick up some local color” so to speak. The event shows off many wineries not just during the day for tastings but also for night for tastings, meals, and live music. We chose to stay at the guest house at one winery, S.A. Preum, which made it even more convenient to walk over each night. We have been told that there are always wine festivals, so I highly recommend that you look at the calendar for these before planning your trip.

We got to Bernkastel-Kues from the Frankfurt airport, we rented a car and enjoyed the easy freeway routes and arrived just under two hours. We went in May, as we tend to pick times of the year when tourist areas are less crowded with summer travelers.

Besides wine tasting many tourists rent bicycles and e-bikes, tour on motorcycles, rowboat, parasail, take a boat tour and hike the vineyards. It’s a very walkable area in town with many wine bars, brew pubs, restaurants, and shops along the cobblestone streets. In other parts of the Mosel River, you can find sandy beaches and even water skiing.

There are many hotels along the Mosel River, we chose to stay in a suite at the Gastehaus at Prum and we would definitely return. Beautiful accommodations, locally sourced breakfast, and of course wine!

Opening talent Jesse Jo Stark warmed up the crowd with her ethereal stage presence and haunting vocals before GRAMMY® Award-nominated and eight-time diamond-certified global superstar Post Malone made history as Fontainebleau Las Vegas’ first New Year’s Eve headliner. Taking the stage for his second consecutive sold-out night at BleauLive Theater, Post performed some of his greatest hits including “Congratulations,” “Wow” and “I Like You (A Happier Song).”

Post took a moment to acknowledge the crowd’s energy and thank them for coming to the show.

Post welcomed a super-fan to the stage, who strummed an acoustic version of “Stay” while he sang along as the crowd joined in. The 10-time Billboard Music Award-winner continued, inviting his dad alongside him to help lead fans inside BleauLive Theater in a countdown to the New Year, toasting to love, happiness and success in 2024.

For those who couldn’t attend Post Malone’s Fontainebleau Las Vegas debut, a glimpse of his BleauLive Theater performance aired on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024″ nationally, giving fans across the country the chance to ring in the New Year with Fontainebleau.

Simultaneously, in New York City, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Times Square donning bowtie-shaped glasses as legendary crooner and Fontainebleau Las Vegas grand opening headliner Paul Anka serenaded the crowd with a new rendition of his signature hit “My Way” and John Lennon’s “Imagine,” a New Year’s Eve tradition. Following the iconic ball-drop, the ball itself was re-lit with Fontainebleau’s iconic bowtie motif and rose back to up where it will sit atop One Times Square for the remainder of the year – a nod to the resort’s 70-year history to be celebrated throughout 2024.

Back in Las Vegas, Fontainebleau Las Vegas christened the resort’s new, member’s only club – Poodle Room – with a surprise performance by GRAMMY® Award-nominated Janelle Monáe. A modern representation of Fontainebleau’s history and heritage, Poodle Room is a sanctuary for members to escape the norm and unlock Fontainebleau luxury like never before. The Beverly Theater presents Meet Harry and Sally at the Beverly, a special screening of the New Year’s Eve movie favorite When Harry Met Sally complete with concessions packages and a post-show reception with live jazz, charcuterie and a champagne toast.

Legacy Club at Circa Resort & Casino puts on a Sky High Celebration, complete with views of the fireworks from the resort’s 60^th floor. The event features passed hors d’oeuvres, photo-worthy cocktails, live music and fire pit seating.

The Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas presents its annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks Viewing Party, which features an open bar, DJ set, skate rentals and a complimentary midnight champagne toast.

Foundation Room Lounge at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino offers sweeping views of the fireworks from the resort’s 63^rd floor. Nearby at the resort, S Bar puts on A Lavish Affair featuring live entertainment, food and beverage, a champagne toast and “surprises” throughout the evening.

Ghostbar at Palms Casino Resort offers views from the 55^th floor of the resort, indoor and outdoor seating and music from a local resident DJ.

Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will ring in 2024 with premium beverage packages and panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip from its patio and loft.

Rouge Room at Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa will host a New Year’s Eve party featuring live entertainment from Franky and the All-Nighters and a midnight champagne toast.

Eight Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas will host football watch parties leading up to its New Year’s Eve Party, which features DJ Coffin Candy and a midnight champagne toast. Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge, also at Resorts World Las Vegas, presents the day’s football action followed by a glitzy New Year’s Eve Party featuring DJ Kid Funk and a champagne toast provided by Moet & Chandon.

VooDoo Lounge at Rio Hotel & Casino puts on a Fireworks Viewing Party complete with an open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres and cityscape views from the resort tower’s 50^th and 51^st floors.

The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower will host a New Year’s Eve “Party at the Top” in its indoor Observation Deck, complete with views of the fireworks, party favors and live entertainment from local DJs.

Getting Around

The Las Vegas Monorail will be open round-the-clock for New Year’s Eve, offering locals and visitors the only motorized method of transportation along the Las Vegas Strip, which will be closed to all traffic in the hours leading up to 2024.

The Monorail will operate continuously from 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 2, 2024, for a total of 43 straight hours.

Locals can purchase $1 single-ride tickets at customer service booths located at every station (except Boingo Station at Las Vegas Convention Center) from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31 with proof of Nevada I.D. For out-of-town guests, one-ride tickets are $6.

The Monorail also offers an eTicket discount on unlimited-ride passes starting at $13.45 for a 24-hour pass, which can be purchased online.

Monorail ticket holders looking for things to do in the destination over the holiday weekend are invited to take advantage of the “Show Your Ticket & Save” program, which provides discounts on shows, attractions, restaurants and more.

NYE Weddings in Las Vegas

With New Year’s Eve 2023 expected to be an extraordinarily popular wedding date in the Wedding Capital of the World™, the destination will open a pop-up Marriage License Bureau at Harry Reid International Airport (Terminal 1) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Sunday, Dec. 31.

New Year’s Eve—or 12/31/23—includes the rare numerical sequence of 1-2-3-1-2-3, which is considered to be an especially appealing date for those planning their nuptials. Consequently, area chapels are experiencing high bookings for that date. This occasion marks the fifth time the Clerk’s Office will open a temporary Marriage License Bureau at the airport.

BOULDER CITY

A Polar Express Dance Extravaganza (Dec. 9)
Experience the joy of the season with holiday dance performances at 2pm and 4:30pm by Dance Etc. inside the Historic Boulder Theatre.
“Comfort & Joy” Red Mountain Choir Concert (Dec. 15-16)
Ring in the season and sing along to the holiday classics with this festive annual concert event at the Elaine K. Smith Center in Boulder City.
Santa Trains (Dec. 9-10, 16-17, 23)

12th Annual Christmas Tree Silent Auction (Now through Dec. 20)
Aquarius Casino Resort and Edgewater Casino Resort are spreading holiday cheer with their 12^th Annual Christmas Tree Auction benefitting the Feed A Family initiative. As the weather starts to cool down, activities are heating up just outside Las Vegas. Visitors looking to escape for a day can find star-studded entertainment and a variety of exciting outdoor activities in Boulder City, Laughlin and Mesquite this fall.

Boulder City

American Rail Bikes
Take a ride and experience the thrill and excitement on an 8 mile excursion on a custom built rail bike through the picturesque landscape of southern Nevada. The adventure departs from the Nevada State Railroad Museum and travels west through the desert to the Railroad Pass Casino before returning to Boulder City.
Get Out on The Green
With three stunning courses, visitors can enjoy a little bit of everything in Boulder City. Featuring towering red mountain peaks and lush fairways, Cascata Golf Club is one of Nevada’s premier golf destinations. The meticulously manicured, 72-par course offers stunning vistas at every turn and a luxurious 37,000-square-foot clubhouse, ideal for relaxing when not on the green. Boulder Creek Golf Club is a public, 27-hole facility created for golfers of every skill level. Oasis-themed holes feature palm trees, beach bunkers, lakes and waterfalls. Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LMNRA) is made up of the 112-mile-long lake, and includes trails, scenic drives, and campsites for those looking for a quick outdoor escape. Adventure outfitter companies like Vegas Glass Kayaks, Blazin’ Paddles and Evolution Expeditions offer a variety of kayaking options for every skill level and desired experience. Visitors can partake in leisurely tours through Black Canyon or excursions from the Hoover Dam down the Colorado River. The recreation area is open year round, 24 hours a day.
Gold Strike Hot Springs
The two-mile trek through Gold Strike Canyon leads to a collection of hot springs right next to the Colorado River. The trail is recommended for advanced hikers due to the steep 600-foot descent through the canyon, which incorporates eight ropes to help navigate down. Peppered through the canyon are pockets of hot pools, grottos and waterfalls.
River Mountains Loop Trail
Great for hiking, climbing and cycling, this 34-mile-long trail connects Lake Mead NRA with the Las Vegas valley. The long loop winds through the quaint town of Boulder City before quickly escaping to the more primitive desert surrounding the River Mountains. Visitors can enjoy views of Lake Mead here, with several places to pause and admire the scenery. The trail then winds through Henderson before returning to Boulder City.
Art Mural Walking Tour
Visitors can enjoy Boulder City’s eclectic art scene by simply taking a leisurely stroll around the small town. To navigate the town’s sculptures and vibrant murals, a downloadable map is available that highlights artists’ works. For a step-by-step tour and in-depth look at each sculpture and mural, visitors can download the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce app.
Desert Adventures

Hike the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail

Get Out on the Green
With six courses in three states, golf enthusiasts have a plethora of options when planning an enjoyable golf outing in Laughlin. Each of the courses offer impeccably manicured greens, unique character, and options for golfers of all skill levels. Explore the Laughlin Labyrinths
Discover the beauty and serenity of the Laughlin desert by exploring the nearby labyrinths, which consist of nine stone mazes within a quarter-mile radius, ranging from 25-55 feet. Visitors can check out the collection’s newest additions: a 36-foot, seven-circuit octagon and a 33-foot, seven-circuit square labyrinth. Marked by a monument marker with a purple etched disc, the labyrinths can be found on the east side of Thomas Edison Drive, between Bruce Woodbury and Casino Drives, a quarter mile from the intersection.
Cruise the Colorado River
With a wide variety of river tours and rentals, visitors can enjoy the Colorado River feature in more ways than one. London Bridge Jet Boat Tours allows guests to experience the river and all its wonder in a sleek and quick jet boat. Nevada Open Golf Tournament (Tuesday, Nov. 7-Thursday, Nov. 9)
With over 40 years of championship history, the Nevada Open is one of the most respected and anticipated golf tournaments in the state. With a $150,000 prize purse, the championship round will take place at the CasaBlanca Golf Club on Thursday, Nov. 9.
CasaBlanca II-Man (Friday, Nov. 10-Sunday, Nov. 12)
This year, the CasaBlanca II-Man golf tournament will be expanding to take up to 150 teams. Frontier Airlines begin Burbank airport service in July, with $19 flights to Las Vegas

Frontier Airlines announces it will begin flying out of Hollywood Burbank Airport this summer to Las Vegas, Phoenix and Denver

To celebrate, it’s offering discount fares for several locations — including Las Vegas.

The low-fare air carrier will offer nonstop flights to Las Vegas, Phoenix and Denver from Burbank starting in July.

“We welcome Frontier Airlines and the services they’re launching at BUR just as leisure travel starts to ramp up again,”

said in a news release. “Our customers now have more choices, adding to the convenience of Hollywood Burbank Airport.”

Through May 17, travelers will be able to purchase introductory fares from Burbank as low as $19 for Las Vegas and Phoenix, and starting at $29 to Denver, the airline said. The deal is good on valid travel dates — for Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday flights — between July 15 and Oct 6, 2021, excluding Sep. 1 through Sept. 7.

Frontier already offers flights out of other Southern California airports, including Los Angeles International Airport, Ontario International Airport and John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

“The addition of Burbank will provide an even more convenient and easy to use option for many in the region.”

Frontier reminded travelers offered a slew of healthy and safety enhancements last year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including requiring all passengers and crew members wear face masks throughout the flight.

Additionally, customers have to wash or sanitize their hands prior to boarding, undergo a pre-boarding temperature screening and confirm that neither they nor anyone in their household has exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 in the two weeks before flying,
